Turbo Launch, Granddam of Point Given, Dead

Turbo Launch, whose grandson Point Given was a Horse of the Year, died June 5 at Dr. Tom Bowman's farm in Maryland. The 22-year-old daughter of Relaunch had delivered an Orientate filly May 21.

"She died out in a field," said owner Bertram Linder. "We're not sure why. We're having an examination done."

Point Given, out of Turko's Turn, was voted 2001 Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old male after winning the Preakness (gr. I) and Belmont (gr. I) Stakes as a homebred for the late Prince Ahmed Salman's The Thoroughbred Corp. Turko's Turn, by Turkoman, was voted 2001 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year. Point Given, by Thunder Gulch, stands at Robert N. Clay's Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky.

Turbo Launch was bred in Kentucky by William Breliant and raced for John Dolan and Bill Sexton and their wives. She won four of eight starts, including the 1987 Canterbury Debutante Stakes at 2.

Turbo Launch, who was produced from the Tobin Bronze mare David's Tobin, produced a dozen named foals. Only three won, including additional stakes winner U R Forgettable. Turbo Launch also is the dam of a Smoke Glacken yearling colt. Her Orientate filly is on a nurse mare.
