Thayer Now Consultant in New Breeders' Cup Role

Edited press release

Damon Thayer, vice president of Breeders' Cup event management and an employee since 1999, has taken a consultant's position with Breeders' Cup Ltd., the company announced June 15.

Thayer, 39, will continue to oversee the management of "front side" operations, special events, and Breeders' Cup host committee activities with New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority officials for this year's Breeders' Cup World Championships at Monmouth Park.

"Damon has requested this change in position in order to allow him to pursue other business consulting opportunities," Breeders' Cup president and chief executive officer Greg Avioli said.  "Damon has been a valuable employee for the Breeders' Cup for eight years, and we look forward to working with him in his new role."

"It has been a great eight years at Breeders' Cup Ltd., and I am eager to continue working with my colleagues here in a consulting role," Thayer said. "I appreciate Greg and the board of directors allowing me to remain involved with the company in this manner while I start my own consulting business. The transition will be seamless, and I look forward to a successful Breeders' Cup at Monmouth Park this fall."

Thayer, who has worked in various marketing and management and communication roles at Detroit Race Course, Thistledown, Pimlico Race Course, Laurel Park, Turfway Park, and Kentucky Downs during his 22 year career in the horse industry, has been a Kentucky state senator since January 2003.
