Tempered Fate, a colt by Distorted Humor consigned by agent Sequel Bloodstock (Becky Thomas), was sold for $260,000 to Zayat Stables to top the second and final session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2007 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age.
The chestnut colt, who galloped at the Under Tack Show, is out of Sweet Serendipity, by Salt Lake, a half sister to champion Anees.
A colt by Grand Slam consigned by Stephens Thoroughbreds, agent for Vision Sales, went to Vision Racing LLC for $220,000. The chestnut colt, whose quarter in :21 2/5 was co-fastest at Sunday’s Under Tack session, is out of stakes placed Scarlet Tango, by French Deputy.
Mike Shustek went to $140,000 for a Forest Wildcat colt consigned by Cloverleaf Farms II and Brent Fernung, agent. The bay colt, out of graded stakes placed Rhiana, by Runaway Groom, zipped an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show.
For the session, 153 2-year-olds grossed $3,659,600, compared with 128 selling for a total of $2,798,300 at the corresponding session last year. The average price was $23,919, up 9.4% from $21,862 last year, while the median price was $14,000 compared with $15,000 in 2006. The buyback percentage was 28.1%; it was 17.9% last year. Nineteen horses brought $50,000 or more compared with 13 last year.
Eight older horses sold for a total of $65,800, averaging $8,225, compared with ten selling for $58,300 and averaging $5,830 last year.
For the entire sale, 308 horses brought a total of $6,794,900, compared with 245 horses grossing $5,508,700 at last year’s June Sale. The average price was $22,061, compared with $22,484 in 2006, while the median price was $14,000 compared with $15,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 32.3%; it was 27% last year. Thirty three horses sold for $50,000 or more compared with 21 in 2006. Nine horses sold for $100,000 compared with five last year.
