(edited press release)

With Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner Rags to Riches expected to make her next start in the July 21 Coaching Club American Oaks (gr. I) at Belmont Park, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced July 13 that live coverage of the race has been added to the TV series “NTRA Summer Racing – Powered by Dodge.”

The Coaching Club American Oaks is a 1 ¼-mile race for 3-year-old fillies that carries a purse of $300,000. The show will air on ESPN from 4:00-5:00 p.m. (EST) and replaces coverage of the San Diego Handicap, which will air live on TVG instead. TVG will also carry the Coaching Club American Oaks after it airs on ESPN.

“We wish to thank our broadcast partners at ESPN, the New York Racing Association, Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, the Thoroughbred Owners of California and TVG for helping make live coverage of this event on ESPN a reality,” said Alex Waldrop, president and CEO of NTRA.

Rags to Riches captured the hearts of many fans after her stirring victory in the Belmont, in which she became the first filly since 1905 to win that Triple Crown event. Last month, the NTRA launched a Rags to Riches blog page on its website, NTRA.com. The Rags to Riches blog page features twice-weekly updates from the Todd Pletcher stable on the latest doings of Rags to Riches, as well as a Rags to Riches photo gallery, video of her 2007 stakes races, biographical information of the filly and her trainer and a special feature through which fans can ask Team Pletcher questions about her. The blog page will continue through the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
During her six-race career, Rags to Riches has won five times, and is currently on a four Grade I stakes winning streak (Las Virgenes Stakes, Santa Anita Oaks, Kentucky Oaks and Belmont Stakes).

On hand for ESPN to offer analysis of the race will be Hall of Fame jockey Jerry Bailey, a four-time winner of the Coaching Club American Oaks. He will be joined by Randy Moss and Jeannine Edwards.
