Texas Yearling Sale Starts Monday at Lone Star Park

There are more than 400 horses cataloged for the Fasig-Tipton Texas yearling sale Monday and Tuesday at Lone Star Park.

In what has been a pretty good year so far for regional yearling auctions, the Fasig-Tipton Texas yearling sale will be taking its swing at the Thoroughbred market Aug. 27 and 28 at Lone Star Park, located between Dallas and Fort Worth. There are 417 horses cataloged for the auction, which begins each day at 10 a.m. (CDT).

The Fasig-Tipton Saratoga preferred yearling sale generated increases in its gross revenue and median price, while the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s August yearling auction produced numbers close to 2006's figures. However, the Texas Thoroughbred breeding industry is struggling without slots, so the sale at Lone Star probably will need a big boost from elsewhere, including nearby horsemen in slots-rich Louisiana, to be successful.

Last year, even though the crash in Lexington of Comair flight 5191, which was carrying horsemen, dampened the mood, the Texas auction produced upswings in its average price and median of 15% and 22.2%, respectively.

There are yearlings by such stallions as Posse, Harlan's Holiday, and Texas star Valid Expectationsin this year's catalog.

The sale is sponsored by the  Texas Thoroughbred Association.
