Radio Network Awarded Breeders' Cup Rights

The Horse Racing Radio Network has been named the exclusive radio network for the 2007 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, it was announced Aug. 29.

HRRN will provide live coverage of the new two-day Breeders’ Cup on Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 27 from Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J. The network will provide two hours of live coverage of Breeders’ Cup Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. (EST), featuring the three new $1 million Breeders’ Cup races, and will continue on Breeders’ Cup Saturday with live coverage from noon to 6 p.m. of the remaining eight Breeders’ Cup races.

Mike Penna and Pete Kules are the founders of HRRN, and will co-host the Breeders’ Cup broadcasts with analyst Jude Feld.  

HRRN, based in Lexington, Ky., is in the process of airing 60 broadcasts this year, including such grade I races as the Donn Handicap, Florida Derby, Toyota Blue Grass Stakes, Kentucky Oaks, Stephen Foster Handicap, and the Whitney Handicap. In June, HRRN secured the national broadcast of the Belmont Stakes (gr. I), which was carried in 16 states, and on affiliates in New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Seattle and Cleveland. Breeders’ Cup Limited administers the Breeders’ Cup World Championships; Thoroughbred racing’s year-end Championships consisting of 11 races and $23 million in purses. The organization also administers the Breeders’ Cup Challenge qualifying series, and the Breeders’ Cup stakes program.
