William and Corinne Heiligbrodt, who campaigned grade II winner Posse in the name of Heiligbrodt Racing Stable, have sold the majority of their shares in the leading first-crop stallion to Posse Partners, a group spearheaded by Barry Weisbord.

Posse, who stands at Dr. Tom Simon’s Vinery near Lexington, Ky., had been owned by Heiligbrodt Racing and Vinery. Vinery is still the largest shareholder.

“This is a business decision for us,” the Heiligbrodts said. “Posse has been a wonderful success story, but our family continues to put racing first. We still own a percentage of Posse, which gives us ample breedings to support our program. We have a number of Posse yearlings and weanlings, and rest assured, you will still see our colors on Posse’s offspring in the future.”

Posse (Silver Deputy--Raska, by Rahy) leads both the freshman and general 2-year-old lists by progeny earnings and stakes winners this year. He has sired six added-money winners and is close to $1 million in progeny earnings. His stakes winners include Saratoga grade II winner Kodiak Kowboy and grade III winner Lantana Mob.

Posse, a five-time stakes winner who earned $662,841, stood for $12,500 in 2007.
