She's Indy Money Banks Seaway for First Graded Win

She’s Indy Money recorded her first graded stakes win Sept. 8 at Woodbine, capturing the CAN$168,500 Seaway Stakes (Can-III) by a comfortable two lengths over odds-on choice Financingavailable.

Live Oak Plantation’s She’s Indy Money recorded her first graded stakes win Sept. 8 at Woodbine, capturing the CAN$168,500 Seaway Stakes (Can-III) by a comfortable two lengths over odds-on choice Financingavailable.

Under a patient Polytrack ride by Patrick Husbands, She’s Indy Money, a 4-year-old daughter of A.P. Indy, held up the rear of the five-horse field during the first half-mile of the seven-furlong test for fillies and mares. She's Indy Money made her bid while four-wide late on the turn, tracking Financingavailable through the stretch. As the leaders began to wilt approaching the eighth pole, She’s Indy Money blew by them all to open up a clear lead.

She's Indy Money, a WinStar Farm Kentucky-bred chestnut filly out of Nancy's Sweep, by End Sweep, now has back-to-back stakes wins for trainer Malcolm Pierce.

Financingavailable, ridden by James McAleney, finished in the runner-up spot, 1 3/4 lengths in front of Count to Three and Emma-Jayne Wilson. The final time was 1:22.54.

Roving Angel and Count to Three battled on the front end through modest fractions of :23 3/5 for the first quarter and :46 3/5 at the half as She's Indy Money trailed by about five lengths.

“We just wanted to keep in striking position,” said Husbands, a four-time Sovereign Award winner as Canada’s top rider, who was celebrating his leading 16th stakes win of the season at Woodbine. “After the quarter, we started to pick it up. I was keeping her alert. This is the best year I’ve had here in terms of stakes.”

In her last outing July 22, She’s Indy Money had taken the 1 1/16-mile Ontario Matron, her first stakes win. The Seaway victory, her fourth in six starts this year, was worth CAN$90,000 to push her career bankroll to CAN$345,815.

“This might be her best distance," Pierce said. "I know she was all-out to win at a mile-and-one-sixteenth last time out. But she’s pretty versatile: turf, Poly, long, short. Just give her some rest between races, treat her right and she treats us right. Training-wise, she’s easy on herself. We just wanted to get through today ,and this has told us a lot. She’s now got a graded stakes win under her belt. Maybe there will be something at Keeneland for her or even here; we haven’t decided.”

The 9-10 public choice Financingavailable, in spite of 14 career victories and more than $1 million in earnings as Canada’s top older filly or mare for 2006, is still looking for her first graded stakes win.

The Seaway field was reduced to five with the morning scratch of Lyrically.

Sent off the 8-5 second choice, She’s Indy Money paid $5.40, $2.60 and $2.10, combining with Financingavailable ($2.30, $2.10) for a $9.70 exacta. Count to Three paid $3 to show. Executive Flight and Roving Angel trailed.
