Seaside Affair Seeks Graded Win in Raven Run

Edmund Gann’s Seaside Affair tops a full field of 14 fillies entered in the Oct. 20 Lexus Raven Run Stakes (gr. II) at Keeneland.

Going seven furlongs over the Polytrack, the John Sadler trainee is after her first graded win following a victory in Del Mar’s Torry Pines Stakes Sept. 2. A daughter of Sea of Secrets, she carries the high weight of 119 and shortens up after running a mile over Del Mar’s synthetic surface in the Torry Pines.

The undefeated West Coast Swing, winner of the Sept. 15 Prairie Meadows Oaks, is also looking for her first graded win. Trained by Shannon Ritter for WinStar Farm, the Gone West filly is lightly raced with just three starts, but owns a combined victory margin of 14 lengths in her past races, two of which came over the Polytrack at Arlington Park.

With one more start under her belt is the Bill Mott-trained Quota, a daughter of Seeking the Gold who finished second to Miss Tizzy in the Sept. 16 Dream Supreme Stakes at Belmont Park. Quota came off back-to-back wins in a maiden special weight and a Saratoga allowance race after finishing third first time out at Churchill Downs. She tries the synthetic surface for the first time for Adele Dilschneider and Claiborne Farm.

Hoping to rebound off a sixth-place finish in the Aug. 18 Arlington Park Oaks (gr. III) for trainer Todd Pletcher, Edward Evans’ Mini Sermon may return to winning form in the Raven Run. By Pulpit, Mini Sermon went into the Arlington Park Oaks off a four-race winning streak that included victories in the Sweetest Chant and the Marking Time stakes.

High Cholesterol, Exciting Justice, Her Majesty, Swiss Diva (fifth in the Torry Pines), Shesa Little Flirt, Over the Edge, My Fair E, Look Deep, and Jibboom complete the field. Super Freaky is entered as well, but trainer Doug O’Neill said Oct. 17 he is leaning toward running the filly in the 1 1/16 Pin Oak Valley View (gr. IIIT) Oct. 19.
