Tony Dutrow Registers 1,000th Win

By Karen M. Johnson

Trainer Tony Dutrow won his 1,000th career race Oct. 18 in the ninth race at Belmont Park with Zayat Stables' New York-bred La Ransom.

Dutrow, 49, has been a mainstay on the Mid-Atlantic and New York circuits since saddling his first winner in 1978 at Delaware Park.

Dutrow, a native of Maryland and a former assistant to Bobby Frankel, is the older brother of one of New York’s leading trainers, Richard Dutrow Jr., who earlier this year hit the 1,000-win milestone.

The Dutrow brothers are sons of the late Richard Dutrow, who during the late 1980’s was among the leading trainers in New York and was the conditioner of many stakes winners, including Flawlessly and King’s Swan.
