Ecliptical Dead

Pennsylvania stallion Ecliptical was euthanized Jan. 2.

Pennsylvania stallion Ecliptical, sire of grade II winner Exclusive Praline, was euthanized Jan. 2 because of intestinal complications. Owned by Charles Armstrong, the 26-year-old son of Exclusive Native stood at Nandi Farm near New Freedom, Pa.

Exclusive Praline was one of five stakes winners by Ecliptical, who also sired seven stakes-placed runners. Exclusive Praline won seven stakes, including the 1994 Ohio Derby (gr. II) over subsequent Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) winner Concern. Ecliptical sired the earners of $3.2 million.

A Florida-bred, Ecliptical raced as a homebred for Gary and Stephen Wolfson's Happy Valley Farm. Out of the Chieftain mare Minnetonka and from the family of champion Real Delight, Ecliptical was a half-brother to four stakes winners and to the dam of classic winner Codex.
