Barretts Catalogs 190 Juveniles

The Barretts March select juvenile auction has 190 horses.

Barretts has cataloged 190 horses for its March select sale of 2-year-olds in training. The number is down 4.5% from the 2007 total of 199. The highest hip number for last year's catalog was 200, and this year it is 191, but Barretts doesn't assign the number 13 to any horse.

This year's edition of the auction will be held March 12 in the Hinds Pavilion, which is located on the grounds of Fairplex Park in Southern California. The sale will start at 2 p.m. (PST) and will be broadcast live by HRTV.

The catalog can be viewed at Stallions with offspring in the book include Awesome Again , Distorted Humor , Forestry, Grand Slam, Lion Heart, Harlan's Holiday, Mr. Greeley, Storm Cat, and Unbridled's Song.

Under tack shows are scheduled for March 4 and 10, and will begin at 10 a.m. (PST) each day.

According to Barretts records, no fewer than 19 March sale graduates won at least one stakes in 2007. The group included eight graded/group stakes winners.

Last year, the Barretts March sale was the only one of the five major select juvenile auctions to enjoy increases from 2006 in three important statistical categories: gross, average price, and median price. However, the buy-back rate was 41.3%. The 88 horses sold grossed $19,340,000 and averaged $219,773. The median was $147,500.
