Retired Hall of Fame jockey Chris McCarron will join TVG, America’s Horseracing Network, as a member of the TVG broadcasting team, it was announced March 27. McCarron will make his on-air debut April 4, live at Keeneland Race Course.
McCarron’s resume as a professional jockey includes six victories in Triple Crown races, including two Kentucky Derby victories, and nine victories in the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, including five in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.  He was the regular rider of horses such as Alysheba, John Henry, and Tiznow. He was inducted into the National Racing Hall of Fame in 1989, his first year of eligibility.
“TVG produces outstanding coverage and analysis of horseracing and my goal is to provide insightful behind-the-scenes analysis that you won’t hear anywhere else,” said McCarron. “I am thrilled to make my TVG debut live from Keeneland, a place that means so much to Thoroughbred racing.”
McCarron retired in 2002 as the leading all-time money winner in Thoroughbred racing history, with over $264 million in purse earnings. With 7,141 trips to the winner’s circle over 28 years, he is the sixth winningest jockey of all time.
“Since TVG’s inception, we’ve evaluated prominent stars in racing that could someday serve as announcers for our network, and Chris’ name has always been on the very top of the list,” said Tony Allevato, TVG’s senior vice president and executive producer. “Chris brings a level of knowledge and insight to our broadcasts that our network has never had before.”
McCarron has provided color commentary and analysis for ABC, NBC and ESPN broadcasts of Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup races. He is currently Executive Director of the North American Racing Academy, the world-class jockey and racing school that he founded at Kentucky Horse Park and Thoroughbred Training Center in Lexington in 2006. McCarron will be based in Kentucky and provide onsite analysis at racetracks throughout the country on the TVG network.
