IEAH Stables, the owners of Kentucky Derby contenders Big Brown and Court Vision, will celebrate their trip to Louisville for the 134th running of the Derby by sponsoring the Jockey Legends Dinner at the Executive West Hotel on Derby eve.
In previous years, Derby-winning jockeys and those with mounts in the current edition of the race had attended the Mint Jubilee Gala, also held Derby eve. However, with the proceeds of the Mint Jubilee not slated to benefit racing-related charities this year, the Jockey Legends Dinner is expected to replace the Mint Jubilee Gala on the social itineraries of retired jockeys and those riding in this year's Derby.
"The IEAH team is thrilled to be participating in this inaugural event, especially since it supports two great charities," said Michael Iavarone, CO-CEO and CO-President of IEAH. "Assisting the non-profit organizations that benefit our industry is an important part of Derby week and we look forward to doing so as we move forward on the Derby trail."
The Jockey Legends Dinner will feature Hall of Fame riders Angel Cordero Jr., Pat Day, Chris McCarron, and Laffit Pincay Jr. during an evening of dialogue, dinner, and dancing. Proceeds from the event benefit the NTRA Charities-Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, the Race Track Chaplaincy of America, and the California-based charity The Winner's Circle.
"The jockeys are pleased to see such prominent owners step up to the plate to support this great cause," said Pincay. "This will be a true celebration for their horse in the Kentucky Oaks and a good-luck send off for their runners on Derby day."
A highly-anticipated portion of the evening will be the live auction, to which Pincay has donated two Kentucky Derby tickets. The winner of the tickets and one guest will join Pincay in his box at Churchill Downs during the 134th Run for the Roses.
Confirmed attendees to the Jockey Legends Dinner include retired Hall of Fame rider and three-time Kentucky Derby winner Gary Stevens, and active jockeys such as Garrett Gomez, Edgar Prado, Mike Smith, John Velazquez, and Kent Desormeaux, who will be aboard Big Brown when the Florida Derby winner heads to the post on the first Saturday in May.
