Claiming Crown Noms Close April 25

Regular and open nominations for the 10th annual Claiming Crown close April 25.

Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minn. will be the host site for the seven-race event that offers $600,000 in purse money and is open to Thoroughbreds which have started for claiming prices ranging between $7,500 and $35,000 since January 1, 2007.

Distances of the races range from six furlongs to 1 1/8 miles and two of the seven races are run on the turf. Nomination forms and official conditions are available at or by calling Claiming Crown coordinator Nat Wess at 1-800-340-6361 ext. 6411.

Co-founded by the National Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association and the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, the inaugural Claiming Crown was held at Canterbury Park in 1999. The Minneapolis racetrack has played host every year except 2002, when the event was held at Philadelphia Park and 2007, when Ellis Park was the site.
