Big Truck to Benefit ReRun on Derby Day

A portion of Big Truck's earnings on Derby Day will benefit ReRun.

(Edited press release)

The Barclay Tagg-trained Big Truck will be "Running for Re-Run" in the May 3 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) at Churchill Downs.

Big Truck’s owner, Eric Fein, is participating n the “Running for Re-Run” program, where one can donate a portion of a horse’s earnings from one or more races, and now part of Big Truck’s Derby Derby purse will be given to ReRun.

Fein said he hopes other owners will follow suit because "these horses run hard, every week, every month, and after their racing careers end, it’s only right that they get good homes."

Fein added that he has been committed to finding homes for his runners. His fillies often find second careers as broodmares, while his geldings are used as pleasure horses.

Felice Busto, vice president of ReRun said, "We’re thrilled to have the 'big' horse to publicize the 'Running for ReRun' program and encourage other owners to participate so we can place more ex-racehorses in good homes. While many owners like Mr. Fein care about what happens to their horses after racing, the reality is that for others, the horses are disposable after their last race.

“We only rely on support from owners, breeders, fans, and the racing industry to be able to give more ex-racehorses a second chance when their racing careers have ended," Busto added.
