Ohio Champs Dead-Heat in Beulah Stakes

Two Ohio-bred champions dead-heated for the win in a Beulah Park stakes May 3.

Two 2007 Ohio champions finished in a dead heat for win in the $50,000 Babst/Palacios Memorial Stakes May 3, closing day of the Beulah Park winter/spring meet.

Shazam Stable and Equirace.com’s Dooze, Ohio’s champion sprinter, and Scioto Farm’s Catlaunch, last year’s champion handicap horse and accredited horse in the Buckeye State, battled through the lane and couldn’t be separated at the wire in 1:10.12 for six furlongs on a muddy track.

Victor Lebron was aboard Dooze for trainer Mike Maker, while Ivan Gonzalez rode Catlaunch for trainer Ivan Vazquez. The Babst/Palacios Memorial is for Ohio-bred horses.

Beulah Park will be closed for live racing and full-card simulcasts through early October. Scioto Downs, a nearby harness track, will offer all simulcasts in the Columbus area during Beulah Park’s closure. The two tracks earlier this year worked out a new deal on simulcasts.
