Kirk Ziadie Saddles Five Winners

Trainer ties record for wins in a day at Calder Race Course.

Trainer Kirk Ziadie sent out six horses to compete at Calder Race Course June 27, and won with five of them, tying the long-held Calder record for most wins in a single day by a trainer.

The record of five victories was first set Sept. 16, 1972 by Arnold Winick and repeated by Stanley Hough May 12, 1977.

Ziadie, 39, is currently the leading trainer at the Calder meet and is the defending champion. He also led all trainers at the last two Tropical meets. He is the son of the successful Calder-based trainer Ralph Ziadie, who has also won several training titles himself over the years.

Ziadie’s five winners were all for different owners. After finishing sixth with his first starter of the day in the second race, Ziadie’s runners went on to win the fourth, fifth, and sixth races, followed by a sweep of the late daily double:
