The Breeders’ Cup announced it has selected St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Susan G. Komen for the Cure as non-profit beneficiaries for the 25th running of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, to be held Oct. 24-25 at Santa Anita Park.
This marks the first time the Breeders’ Cup has established relationships with broad-based global charitable organizations tied to the World Championships. The Breeders’ Cup has established a goal to raise a minimum of $250,000 for each charity during the weekend.
In addition to these two groups, the Breeders’ Cup will seek to raise funds and awareness for local charities in the Southern California area, and for equine-related charities it has supported since its inception in 1984.
Both St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Susan G. Komen for the Cure will participate in the week-long series of events both on and off the track in a variety of ways. They include:
--Information locations on-site at Santa Anita for each charitable organization
--Involvement with the Thursday night celebrity gala and the Friday night Chairman’s dinner
--PSAs that will air during ABC’s and ESPN’s live coverage of the event and the simulcast show
--Activities on and off-site that will allow fans to participate in the fundraising efforts
--Support from each group’s local affiliate network
--Digital marketing promotions
Both groups plan to work with Breeders’ Cup Challenge tracks both in the United States and abroad. Winners of Breeders’ Cup Challenge races, which this year will be held in U.S., Canada, Hong Kong, and Great Britain from July through October, earn automatic qualifying berths into a corresponding race at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

The Breeders’ Cup plans to reach its $500,000 minimum goal through ticket sales, one of a kind auction items, sponsor programs, and private donations.
