Buy the Barrel Retired

Buy the Barrel's three stakes wins this year included a grade II score.

Buy the Barrel, a three-time stakes winner this year, has been retired from racing. The 4-year-old daughter of E Dubairaced as a homebred for the Hinkle family’s Hinkle Farms.

Buy the Barrel scored her big win in the May 17 Allaire du Pont Distaff Stakes (gr. II) at Pimlico following a triumph in the Bayakoa Stakes at Oaklawn Park in April. She had started the year with a score in the Sam Houston Distaff Stakes. Her final start came in an unplaced effort in the July 13 Delaware Handicap (gr. II).

“She came out of the Delaware race with a small issue,” said Ben Kessinger, sales director at Hinkle Farms. “We figured she had done enough and not to press on. She’s the last foal from her dam, and we purposely kept her to race because of how well her female family was doing.”

Trained by Larry Jones, Buy the Barrel retired with seven wins from 17 races and earnings of $339,740. She has arrived at Hinkle Farms near Paris, Ky.

Buy the Barrel is one of four stakes winners out of the stakes-winning Drouilly mare Affordable Price. Buy the Barrel is a half-sister to stakes winners Lady Skywalker, Moore’s Flat, and Surf N Sand. Lady Skywalker and another of Buy the Barrel’s half-sisters are graded stakes producers.
