McEvoy to Ride for Darley in Australia

Melbourne Cup winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy, who has spent the past four years as Sheikh Mohammad’s number two jockey behind Frankie Dettori, is leaving Europe and returning to his homeland.

McEvoy has accepted the role as Darley Australia’s number one jockey and will have the premium choice of all Darley rides within Australia. Sheikh Mohammed’s horse force in Australia increased when Darley bought all of Woodlands Stud’s 250 racehorse in March.

Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock advisor John Ferguson commented: "During his time in Europe, Kerrin has proved himself as a world class rider and we are delighted that he will be riding for Darley Australia."

McEvoy, who is also married to an Australian, said: "I am pleased to be continuing my close association with Sheikh Mohammed. Darley is one of Australia's leading stables and in fact is probably the biggest now, and so it is an honor to be part of such a great team.

“I cannot wait to get going,” he said.

McEvoy's initial riding engagements when he returns to Australia from his current base in the United Kingdom will be at Kembla Grange racecourse Aug. 6.
