Its Acedemic, Won Five Stakes, Dead

Its Acedemic, who was a fan favorite during the cold months at Aqueduct, was euthanized July 11 because of colic-like symptoms. The 24-year-old son of Sauce Boat was out of the Arts and Letters mare After School.

Racing for Marcus Vogel, Its Acedemic won five stakes, all graded at Aqueduct. He also ran some of his best races at Belmont Park. At 5 in 1989, he finished a good second to Easy Goer in the Woodward Handicap (gr. I) and was fourth in the Metropolitan (gr. I) and Suburban (gr. I) Handicaps. At Saratoga that year, he ran fourth in the Whitney Handicap (gr. I).

Bred by Vogel and his wife, Hortense, Its Acedemic retired with a dozen wins from 49 races and earnings of $931,228.  As a stallion, he sired 35 winners, including stakes-placed Go Chandler. He last stood at Tomorrow Bloodstock Farm near Thompson Ridge, N.Y.
