Spendthrift to Stand Three New Stallions

Notional, Tiz Wonderful, and Into Mischief headed to Spendthrift

Spendthrift Farm announced it will add three stallions to its roster for 2009: graded stakes winners Notional, Tiz Wonderful, and Into Mischief. The farm, owned by B. Wayne Hughes, is located near Lexington. No stud fees were announced.

The most accomplished of the three is Notional (In Excess—Truly Blessed, by French Deputy), who raced for J. Paul Reddam and was trained by Mark Hennig. The 4-year-old won three stakes, two last year and one this season. In 2007, he took the San Rafael Stakes (gr. II) and Risen Star Stakes (gr. III) and in July won the Salvator Mile Handicap (gr. III).

Into Mischief (Harlan's Holiday—Leslie’s Lady, by Tricky Creek) is the grade I winner of the group, having won the CashCall Futurity last year. The 3-year-old colt has made four starts, with seconds in the San Vicente Stakes (gr. II) this year and Hollywood Prevue Stakes (gr. III) last year.

Owned by Hughes and trained by Richard Mandella, Into Mischief will remain in training.

Tiz Wonderful (Tiznow —Evil, by Hennessy) has not started this year. Owned by Stonestreet Stables and trained by Steve Asmussen, he won the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. II) and Iroquois Stakes (gr. III) as a 2-year-old in 2006. His last race was a second in the 2007 More Than Ready Stakes at Belmont Park.
