Lecturing Lynn Favored in B.C. Oaks

Daughter of Pulpit has won three of her past four starts in Canadian stakes races.

Lecturing Lynn, winner of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Handicap in her most recent start, is the 9-5 morning line choice in the $125,000 British Columbia Breeders' Cup Oaks (Can-III) at Hastings Park in Vancouver, Canada Sept. 20.

Eight sophomore fillies are entered in the 1 1/8-mile main track event. Stephen McDonald's Lecturing Lynn, a Kentucky-bred daughter of Pulpit, has won three of her past four decisions, all of them stakes races in Canada, for trainer L.T. McCarty.

In the 1 1/16-mile Hong Kong Jockey Club at Hastings, Lecturing Lynn controlled the pace and opened up a 2 1/2-length lead in the stretch, then was put to the drive late by jockey David Wilson as Oaks rival Blue Sky Holiday made a strong bid. Lecturing Lynn prevailed by one length for her fourth win six tries this year.

The favorite, to be ridden once again by Wilson, has won two of four starts at Hastings with one second and one third. They'll break from post 5.

Blue Sky Holiday, to be ridden by Chad Hoverson, is the 5-2 second choice although she is winless in nine starts at Hastings. Trained by John Snow, the Florida-bred filly by Victory Gallop has nevertheless been close at Hastings plenty of times with four runner-up finishes and two thirds. She dominated the Oregon Oaks at Portland Meadows this spring. Blue Sky Holiday has won four of 17 starts in her busy career while finishing out of the money just three times.

Broken Hearted, winner of the Northlands Park Oaks July 19, makes her Hastings debut as the 3-1 third choice for trainer Dale Greenwood. The Florida-bred daughter of B L's Appeal faded to third as the 3-2 pick in her most recent start, the 1 1/16-mile Sonoma Handicap at Northlands Aug. 9, finishing four lengths behind the victorious Lecturing Lynn.

Hastings' leading trainer Troy Taylor, winning at a 28% clip at the meeting, sends out a pair for owners Glen Todd and Patrick Kinsella. Heaven On Hold was a game winner of an allowance heat over the course in her last start and will be asked to stretch out here. Summer Song tallied by a nose in breaking her maiden on a sloppy Hastings strip Aug. 24.
