Tatts Book 2 Has Quality, Quantity

Book 2 of the Tattersalls October yearling sale begins in Newmarket, England, Oct. 13  sales company officials were hoping that the buoyant trade seen at Book 1 could continue.

Sheikh Mohammed, his family, and associates helped fuel a strong trade last week against a turbulent external economic backdrop and Tattersalls marketing director Jimmy George hopes that will have a positive impact this week.

"The strength of trade at Book 1 took many by surprise and a lot of people were unable to buy as many yearlings as they hoped," George said. "We hope that will have a beneficial effect on Books 2 and 3, and that those people will be back this week looking to fill their orders."

Many vendors were keener to sell in Book 2 this year than Book 1 and as a result the sale’s second part has 847 lots, an increase of 214 on last year. Book 3, which takes place on Oct. 16-17, has 484 lots cataloged.

This part of the sale looks sure to be about individuals as much as pedigrees although one yearling that should have major paper appeal is lot 1050, a Refuse to Bend half-brother to this season’s group II Coventry Stakes winner Art Connoisseur (by Lucky Story).

Book 2 runs today through Oct. 15.
