The sale pavilion where Fasig-Tipton’s Midlantic division conducts its auctions will undergo “positive cosmetic changes” during a renovation that will begin following the winter mixed sale in December, according to Fasig-Tipton’s director of marketing, Terence Collier. A team from idea source, a Louisville-based architectural and design firm, visited the facilities in Timonium, Md., during the fall yearling sale Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
The bulk of the work on the project is scheduled to be completed prior to the sale of 2-year-olds in training next May. The mixed sale scheduled for February of 2009 was canceled.
The improvements will include upgrades to the lighting, decorations, and sound, Collier said. The Timonium facility is located on the site of the Maryland State Fair, and the plans for the renovations will be submitted to the fair’s operators before being finalized, according to Collier. Also being considered are further improvements to the barn area, where the ground was covered with a new blacktop surface earlier this year and made more level.
Idea source also was involved in the major renovation of Fasig-Tipton’s Kentucky sale pavilion in Lexington that was completed prior to the 2007 July select yearling auction.
