The Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, which represents owners and trainers at Arlington Park and Hawthorne Race Course, and the Oregon Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, comprised of horsemen competing at Portland Meadows, have voted to join the Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Group.

Formed in December 2007 as an agency to represent horsemen’s organizations around North America in matters relating to interstate simulcasts, the THG now has 20 horsemen’s organizations as members. The THG is working to ensure the maximum distribution of simulcast signals for wagering with the optimum revenue return to support live racing to benefit purses and racetracks.

“Illinois THA president Frank J. Kirby and all the directors unanimously approved the application for membership, and realized joining the THG is in the best interest of all the trainers and owners who race in Illinois and throughout the country,” Illinois THA executive director Greg Szymski said.

“The Oregon HBPA is pleased to be a member of the THG,” Oregon HBPA president Jim Fergason said. “Being a small state, it is important that we receive every dollar available for horsemen’s purses. We believe that the THG gives us the best chance to achieve that goal.”

Horsemen’s organizations that are members of THG are the Arkansas HBPA, Delaware THA, Florida HBPA, Illinois THA, Indiana HBPA, Kentucky HBPA, Kentucky Thoroughbred Association, Louisiana HBPA, Maryland THA, Minnesota HBPA, Mountaineer Park HBPA, Ohio HBPA, HBPA of Ontario, Oklahoma HBPA, Oregon HBPA, Pennsylvania HBPA, Tampa Bay Downs HBPA, Texas Horsemen’s Partnership, Thoroughbred Owners of California, and Virginia HBPA.
