Tell It as It Is was up in the final jump to capture the $175,000 Maple Leaf Stakes by a nose over favored Arden Belle at Woodbine Oct. 19.

The 4-year-old Kentucky-bred filly, owned by the Cinnamont Stable and trained by James Smith, tagged the 2-1 choice Arden Belle, who had opened a clear advantage with a furlong to run for jockey Patrick Husbands, just in time as the second choice.

Tell It as It Is, who also won the Tattling on June 18, traveled 1 1/4 miles in 2:04.99.

Winning pilot Emma-Jayne Wilson, who also won Saturday's Fanfreluche, settled the daughter of Chester House into sixth position early.

"I was trying to hold my position between two horses, going down the backside," Wilson said. "I wasn't in a position to take back or go around. The horse in front of me started backing up. I squeezed her back and got her to the outside. I tapped her on the shoulder once and she jumped right back up on to the bridle. I figured she was going to run big."

The bay filly has now won two of her six tries in 2008 after winning twice in six attempts last year. Smith said expectations have been far greater in 2008.

"Last year, she went through the allowance conditions pretty easily. She's been running in all stakes races this year," explained Smith. "She's had some bad luck. It was tough when she lost by 2 1/4 lengths in the Dance Smartly (Can-II). She vindicated herself today."

Now a five-time winner from 13 starts, Tell It as It Is elevated her career earnings to $356,622.

Calumet Farm bred the winner, who is out of Talltalelady, by Naskra.

Tell It as It Is returned $9.20, $4.20, $2.80, combining with Arden Belle ($3.50, $2.60) for a $32.20 exacta. Born to Be ($3.60), who finished 3 1/4 lengths behind with Richard Dos Ramos aboard, rounded out a trifecta worth $113.90.
