Champion New Approach to Dalham Hall

European champion New Approach won both this year's Epsom Derby and Champion Stakes.

New Approach, this year’s Vodafone Epsom Derby (Eng-I) and last year’s Cartier Award winning 2-year-old male, has been retired from racing and will enter stud at Sheikh Mohammed’s Dalham Hall Stud near Newmarket, England. A fee will be announced later.

By Galileo, New Approach raced this year for Sheikh Mohammed’s wife, Princess Haya, and went out a winner, scoring in the Oct. 18 Emirates Airline Champion Stakes (Eng-I). He became the first to win the Epsom Derby and Champion since Sir Ivor in 1968. New Approach also won this year’s Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes (Ire-I).

At 2, New Approach won a group I event in England and Ireland and was a champion in both countries. He raced at that age for Jackie Bolger, whose husband, James S. Bolger, trained at him 2 and 3. New Approach retired with eight wins and three placings from 11 starts and earnings of $3,885,308.  Ten of his races were group events.

Bred in Ireland by Lodge Park Stud, New Approach is the last foal from English and Irish champion Park Express (by Ahonoora), and is a half-brother to Japanese group I winner Shinko Forest and Irish group winner Dazzling Park.
