A Duesenberg guitar autographed by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is one of the premier items to be auctioned Oct. 24 to benefit Breeders’ Cup Charities during the 2008 Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

The guitar, a Heartbreakers 30th anniversary signature model, is the only one in the world signed by the entire band: Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Ron Blair, Steve Ferrone, and Scott Thurston. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by each of the band members and a photo of them signing the guitar.

In addition to the guitar, Breeders’ Cup Charities will auction a VIP behind-the-scenes private tour on the set of Desperate Housewives with star Ricardo Chavira; a round of golf with Gary Player, winner of nine majors, at the Riviera Country Club; an exclusive preview of the Marchesa Presentation during New York Fashion Week 2009; and a “Hooray for Hollywood” package including a private tour of the set of a major studio and collector’s edition DVD of When Harry Met Sally autographed by star Meg Ryan.

The auction will take place during the Chairman’s Dinner Presented by Sentient Flight Group, one of several events during the weekend that will benefit Breeders’ Cup Charities and its affiliates: the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, the Grayson Jockey Club Research Foundation, Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund, and Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA.
