Race Filly Zaftig Retired

Zaftig beat champion Indian Blessing at a mile in a grade I stakes.

John and Susan Moore’s Zaftig, who ran third in the Sentient Flight Group Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, has been retired from racing because of a torn suspensory ligament. She is being rested at Dr. Patricia Hogan’s Hogan Equine at Fair Winds Farm near Cream Ridge, N.J. No surgery was performed.

A 3-year-old daughter of Gone West, Zaftig exited racing with three wins, by a combined 18 1/2 lengths, from six starts and earnings of $408,700. At Belmont Park this summer, she won the mile Acorn Stakes (gr. I) over champion Indian Blessing and the Nassau County Stakes (gr. III) at seven furlongs.

Bred in Kentucky by Top Notch Farms, Zaftig is out of Canadian grade I winner Zoftig, by Cozzene. The Moores plan to have Zaftig bred or sell her.
