Tattersalls Foal Sale Has Slow Start

The Tattersalls December foal sale got off to a slow start Nov. 25 in England. The 76 horses sold (from 189 offered) grossed 274,700 guineas and averaged 3,614 guineas. The median price was 2,000 guineas. Last year, during the opening session, the 131 horses sold grossed 1,086,600 guineas and averaged 8,295 guineas. The median was 4,000 guineas.

A filly from the first crop of Phoenix Reach was the most expensive weanling sold, bringing 20,000 guineas from Lodge Farm Stud’s Di Turner. Produced from the Salder’s Wells mare Rasmalai, the filly was consigned by the Christo family’s Winterbeck Manor Stud.

A Intikhab – Munakashah colt sold for 16,500 guineas. Blandford Bloodstock’s Richard Brown purchased him from Gazeley Stud. Brown said he was acting on behalf of an Irish client and that the colt would be reoffered at another sale in 2009.

The foal sale continues through Nov. 29.
