Royal Applause Colt Tops Tatts Day Two

It was another slow day at the 2008 Tattersalls December foal sale Nov. 26 in England. The 110 horses sold (from 199 offered) grossed 746,100 guineas, to average 6,783 guineas. The median was 4,000 guineas.

Last year's second session of the December foal sale saw 155 horses sold (from 240 offered) to gross 2,431,000 guineas. The average was 15,684 guineas and the median 10,000 guineas.

A colt by Royal Applause topped the second session, bringing 52,000 guineas after being the subject of a bidding duel between Camas Park Stud’s Timmy Hyde Jr., and Yeomanstown Stud’s David O’Callaghan. The Voute Stables-consigned colt went to Hyde, who indicated the he would be reoffered as a yearling next year.

Oscar Stud bred the session-topping bay colt in Ireland from the Danehill mare Sciunfona.

The second-highest price of the day was a bay colt by Indesatchel out of the Green Desert mare Razzle. Consigned by his breeder, Terry Holdcraft’s Bearstone Stud, the colt was purchased by Furnace Mill Stud’s David Brown for 30,000 guineas. Brown indicated the colt would be reoffered as a yearling.

The Tattersalls December foal sale continues through Nov. 29.
