Tattersalls Foal Sale Numbers Decline

Galileo colt one of three to bring six-figure bids

There were three six-figure lots as trade stepped up a gear at the Nov. 27 third foal session of the Tattersalls December Sale in Newmarket. The day’s top price of 180,000 guineas was paid by pinhooker Timmy Hyde of Camas Park Stud in Co Tipperary Ireland for a Galileo colt.

Hyde outbid Paddy Twomey for the colt, bred by Brian Hammond’s Ashley House Stud and sold from Trickledown Stud.

The session figures were again well short of their 2007 equivalents. The 3,381,100 guineas aggregate was down by 43%, the 22,244 guineas average fell by 36%, and the 13,000 guineas median represented a  41% decline. The clearance rate was 70%.

Dalakahani was another stallion to bring a six-figure price via a colt bred by Frank Dunne and offered from Liam Cashman’s Rathbarry Stud. Willie Browne of Meadowlands Stud outbid Ed Sackville for the colt at 115,000 guineas.

A 110,000 guineas Invincible Spirit colt was the other to make six figures when agent Peter Doyle outbid Browne for the Shoreham Stud offering.

The sale continues Nov. 28 with a session starting at 10.30 a.m.
