A Monsun filly out of group I Prix Vermeille winner Sweet Stream topped the trading Nov. 28 at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale when selling for 440,000 guineas to agent John Ferguson.
Eddie O’Leary of Lynn Lodge Stud was underbidder on the filly.
Sheikh Hamdan al Maktoum was also shopping for racing prospects via racing manager Angus
Gold, headed by a London Thoroughbred Services-bred Oasis Dream colt offered from the Wigan family’s West Blagdon. He realized 200,000 guineas with Oliver St. Lawrence the underbidder.
The top pinhooking prospect of the day was a full brother to 2006 group I St. Leger second-place finisher The Last Drop, bred by Sunderland Holdings and consigned by Brian and Sheila Grassick’s Newtown Stud. Eugene McDermott of Kennycourt Stud outbid Anthony Stroud for the colt, whose yearling full brother was bought for 460,000 guineas by owner Sir Robert Ogden at Tattersalls in October.
Figures were again well short of their 2007 equivalents. The 6,414,600 guineas turnover dropped by 48%, the 50,910 guineas average by 28%, and the 35,000 guineas median by 31%. The clearance rate was 69%.
The December Foal Sale finishes Nov. 29 with a session starting at 10.30 a.m.
