Milwaukee Appeal notched her first career stakes win in Woodbine's $122,351 Ontario Lassie Stakes Nov. 30, defeating the 2-5 favorite Retraceable by 1 1/4 lengths.

The daughter of Milwaukee Brew sat just off the pace and opened up a comfortable lead mid-stretch to capture the 1 1/16-mile contest for Ontario-foaled 2-year-old fillies at odds of nearly 8-1.

Owned by C. E. C. Farms, Milwaukee Appeal was ridden by Na Somsanith. She traveled the 1 1/16-mile distance on Polytrack in 1:45.43 on a snowy, windy afternoon.

The bay filly raced in third, within two lengths, for the first half-mile, which D' Country carved out in :50.19. On the second turn, Milwaukee Appeal advanced on the leader and took charge in upper stretch.

"This filly has improved from day one. She's matured and always gotten better with each race," said winning trainer Scott Fairlie.

In two prior two-turn attempts, both stakes, Milwaukee Appeal had one win and one second-place finish, which came in the Princess Elizabeth Nov. 1.

"Milwaukee Brew stamps his foals pretty well," Fairlie said.

The homebred filly, who is out of Appealing Forum, is now 3-for-6 lifetime with $190,466 in earnings.

Retraceable, ridden by Patrick Husbands, came on late to edge D' Country and Emile Ramsammy by a head for the runner-up position.

Milwaukee Appeal returned $17.90, $4, and $3.20, combining with Retraceable ($2.20, $2.10) for a $35 exacta. D' Country ($6.60) completed a $227.60 trifecta. Fourth-place finisher Dance for Us rounded out a $1 superfecta worth $603.55.
