RTCA to Spread Christmas Cheer

The organization will give gifts to backstretch workers at NYRA tracks.

(Edited press release)

The Race Track Chaplaincy of America's New York Division has teamed up with Darley USA, a group of local breeders and owners, and a concerned group of Saratoga residents, to bring some Christmas joy to approximately 100 people connected to the backstretch community at Saratoga Race Course.

Many workers live in Saratoga year around with their families. During the winter months, the workers seek employment on local horse farms and retail stores.
On Dec. 8 at 6 p.m., the Race Track Chaplaincy will host a gathering at the Golden Corral in Saratoga. After dinner, Chaplain Humberto Chavez will speak about the true meaning of Christmas. Then, all the children will receive gifts consisting of new clothing and toys. The parents will also be given gifts.

On Dec. 15 at 6 p.m., in the Man O' War room at Aqueduct, a similar event will take place for around 400 Belmont Park and Aqueduct backstretch workers and their families.
