Hong Kong Sale Breeze-Up Held

Edited Hong Kong international sale press release

Approximately 450 Hong Kong owners and Hong Kong Jockey Club members turned out at Sha Tin Dec. 7 to witness the Hong Kong international sale breeze-up (under tack show). Thirty one horses breezed on the turf while the prospective owners, trainers, and guests scrutinized their ability and physique from the grandstands.

"We are delighted with the turnout this morning in light of the current economic climate as it shows that interest in the sale is still strong,” said Mark Player, head of international races, sale, and development for the HKJC. “I think each lot, right across the price spectrum, presented themselves very professionally. It’s a real pleasure to put forward such a balanced line-up of potential stars. This year, we have invested more time and money in trying to secure the highest quality young horses with the right bloodlines for Hong Kong, and we believe this has been reflected in this morning’s breeze-up.”

Particular attention focused on horses by Pivotal and Exceed And Excel from the European draft, Player added.

The New Zealand draft looks to be headed by Encosta De Lago and O’Reilly geldings and the Australian by sons of Redoute’s Choice, Encosta de Lago, and Flying Spur.

The Hong Kong International Sale will take place in the parade ring of Sha Tin Racecourse Dec. 13, the eve of the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races meeting.
