Hoosier Park Racing and Casino recently received approval from the Indiana Horse Racing Commission for dates and post times in 2009. The facility will offer 80 days of Standardbred racing and 63 days of Thoroughbred racing, with 21 of those days including Quarter Horse racing during the 2009 calendar year.
Thoroughbred racing begins July 30. Racing will be held Wednesday through Sunday, with post times at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Racing will be held at 12:45 p.m. Friday through Sunday. A special Labor Day racing card will be held Sept. 7. Quarter Horse racing will be conducted on weekends throughout the meet that concludes Oct. 24.
The Thoroughbred meet will be highlighted by the 15th running of the $500,000-added Indiana Derby (gr. II) Oct. 3. The event will be joined by the 10th running of the $100,000 Michael G. Schaefer Mile.
