(Edited press release)
TwinSpires.com, the advance deposit wagering service for Churchill Downs Inc., has rescheduled its “Biggest Vegas Qualifier Ever” online handicapping contest for Jan. 3, 2009.
The second annual online handicapping contest was originally scheduled for Nov. 29, but a technical issue forced the suspension of play that day. All entry fees for the original contest were refunded and players at the top of the standings at the time of the tournament’s suspension received additional awards. The technical issue that forced the cancellation of tournament play Nov. 29 has been corrected.
The “Biggest Vegas Qualifier Ever” will offer 15 spots in the field for Daily Racing Form-National Thoroughbred Racing Association National Handicapping Championship Jan. 23-24 at Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas. An additional 10 spots will be available to the 2009 Horseplayer World Series set for Feb. 19-21 at The Orleans casino.
The top finisher in the contest will also earn a grand prize of $10,000. Participants will be able to download special Brisnet handicapping information for races selected for the contest at no charge.
Because of the post-New Year rescheduling of the “Biggest Vegas Qualifier Ever,” tournament participants will not have the opportunity to compete for points on the NTRA’s 2008 NHC Tour in the online tournament. Those points are available only to tournaments conducted during the 2008 calendar year.
Online registration for January’s rescheduled “Biggest Vegas Qualifier Ever” will begin Wednesday, Dec. 17 at www.twinspires.com. The entry fee is $250 and the field is limited to 550 entries. Contest entrants are accepted on a first come, first served basis.
