Not For Love, who stands at Richard Golden and Dr. Tom Bowman’s Northview Stallion Station near Chesapeake City, Md., has ranked as Maryland most prominent sire for years. But what he has accomplished this year is truly exceptional. He is just the second U.S. stallion outside Kentucky to top the $6-million mark in seasonal progeny earnings. His runners have earned $6,276,511 through Dec. 14.
Not For Love bettered the former mark set by Florida stallion Silver Buck in 1998. Silver Buck’s year-end total reached $6,211,253, largely through the nearly $4.7 million earned by his son, champion Silver Charm. Silver Buck was the first to reach the $6-million mark.
An 18-year-old son of Mr. Prospector out of the Northern Dancer mare Dance Number, Not For Love is represented this year by 14 stakes winners and 17 stakes-placed runners. They include Cuba, who won the Maryland Million Classic, and Broadway Producer, who captured the Maryland Million Turf Stakes and registered a 101 Beyer Speed Figure in winning the Dec.13 Jennings Handicap at Laurel. Not For Love's 2009 fee is $25,000.
