Edited press release

Delaware Park announced Dec. 8 that Pat Pope had been appointed racing secretary for the track’s upcoming 72nd meet. He will assume his duties at Delaware Park in April after the meet ends at Oaklawn Park, where Pope also serves as racing secretary.

Pope brings more than 29 years of horse racing industry experience to Delaware Park. The resident of Bossier City, La., has served as racing secretary at Louisiana Downs and Prairie Meadows.  He has been the racing secretary at Oaklawn Park since 1994.

“I am thrilled to get this opportunity to work as the racing secretary at Delaware Park,” Pope said. “I am looking forward to working at an East Coast racetrack, especially at a track with such a rich history and beautiful facility. My family and I are also excited about spending the spring and summer in the mid-Atlantic region for the first time.”

“We are pleased to have such a knowledgeable and enthusiastic individual added to our team at Delaware Park,” said John Mooney, executive director of racing at Delaware Park. “Pat is a proven racing secretary and he has enjoyed success everywhere he has been. I am confident his experience and knowledge will make this upcoming meet exciting for the fans and horsemen.”
