Point Determined Retired to Montesacro

He will stand for a private fee

Point Determined, winner of the 2006 Affirmed Handicap (gr. III) and runner-up in the Santa Anita Derby (gr. I), Swaps Stakes (gr. II) and San Felipe Stakes (gr. II) the same year, has been retired and will stand for a private fee at Montesacro Farm in Georgetown, Ky., it was announced Jan. 24.

A 6-year-old son of Point Given—Merengue, by Broad Brush, Point Determined last raced Dec. 28 in an optional claimer at Tampa Bay, finishing ninth in the 1 1/16-mile turf event. The bay horse was winless in his last six starts and had not won since taking the Affirmed by a nose in June 2006 at Hollywood Park. He won the race on the same day that his owner, Bob Lewis, passed away at the age of 81. Lewis had purchased Point Determined for $750,000 as a 2-year-old.
The following year, Point Determined was bought by German Larrea for $100,000 at the Keeneland 2007 November breeding stock sale. Kirk Ziadie was his most recent trainer.
Point Determined, who finished ninth in the 2006 Kentucky Derby (gr. I), finished his career with a 3-4-1 record from 14 starts and earned $399,428.
