Field Now 12 For Rescheduled WEBN

The 3-year-old race is on the Turfway Polytack

The field for the rescheduled $50,000 WEBN Stakes Feb. 7 grew to 12 when entries were retaken, and additional early speed adds new possibilities to the mile contest for 3-year-olds.

Bill Hembrecht trainee Music City, who thoroughly dominated the two most recent of his three career starts, should be right out front. He won his last race, a mile allowance at Turfway, by five lengths and was never challenged.

Music City likely will be pressed by Azicharmyou, who has an equally dominating maiden special win and a second at Turfway for trainer Larry Holt but has yet to try two turns.

Platinum Van couldn’t maintain his speed until his last race, a maiden special mile at Turfway that he won by 1 1/2 lengths.  Whether he can do so again in stakes company for trainer Ed Frederick remains a question, but his participation conceivably puts three on the front end early and opens the door wider for a closer such as Parade Clown, Babamoon, or Toccet Rocket.

Parade Clown broke his maiden at 1 1/16 miles and has the advantage of having done so over Turfway’s Polytrack. He most recently was second to Music City in the aforementioned Turfway mile allowance. Toccet Rocket was fourth in the same race in his most recent start. Two starts back he broke his maiden at 1 1/16 miles at Hawthorne. Babamoon comes in off a mile-plus allowance win at Mountaineer.

The WEBN Stakes field from the rail out: Dynamite Bob (jockey Manfredi Guzman); Babamoon (Julio Felix); Toccet Rocket (Tom Pompell); Scrimpy (Dean Mernagh); Dixiessaltshaker (Fernando De La Cruz): Sirius Black (Inosencio Diego); Music City (Otto Thorwarth); Sundays Baby Grand (Eddie Zuniga); Parade Clown (Bill Troilo); Platinum Van (meet leader Victor Lebron); Azicharmyou (Rodney Prescott); and Our Bonanza (Jose Calo).

The WEBN Stakes, the second of two local preps for the Lane’s End Stakes (gr. II), was rescheduled after Turfway canceled racing Jan. 31.
