(Edited press release)
The 2009 NATC Colt and Filly Futurities will be run at Monmouth Park, the National Association of Two-Year-Old Consignors announced Feb. 6. It will be the fifth time in eight years that the races will be held at the New Jersey track.
Set for Saturday, Sept. 26, the six-furlong Futurities each will be worth an estimated $200,000, with $100,000 added. The NATC has awarded nearly $3 million in purse money for the previous seven runnings.
“The Futurities are another strong incentive we offer our buyers,” said NATC president Mike Mulligan. “Two-year-olds in training sales are the fastest track to the winner’s circle. That $400,000 in stakes money, which is available exclusively every year, gives buyers another real incentive to come to our sales.”
The Futurities are open to juveniles that are cataloged to 2009 sales of 2-year-olds in training and whose owners have made them eligible. Fields are limited to 14 starters, with preference given to those with the highest earnings.
