Favoritism Unchanged in Oaks Futures

Justwhistledixie is favorite.

Edited press release

The streaking Justwhistledixie, an impressive winner in the Davona Dale (gr. II) at Gulfstream Park in her most recent race, continued to be a surprising favorite over the high-powered duo of reigning 2-year-old filly champion Stardom Bound and Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II) winner Rachel Alexandra as Churchill Downs’ 2009 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager headed into the last day of its four-day run.
West Point Thoroughbreds, Lakland Farm and Dee Hubbard’s Justwhistledixie, a  daughter of Dixie Union who has won four consecutive races, remained a solid 2-1 favorite after Saturday’s betting and has been the fan’s choice throughout Pool 2.  She remained atop the KOFW betting roster over Stardom Bound, winner of five straight Grade I races, and Rachel Alexandra, who rolled to an impressive victory on Saturday in the $400,000 Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II).  Both of those fillies were 7-2 shots at the end of Saturday’s betting, with Stardom Bound ending up as the actual second betting choice.
The Kentucky Oaks Future Wager, $2 minimum wager and a “win” bet only, allows fans to wager on contenders for the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I), America’s premier race for 3-year-old fillies, at odds that could be more attractive than those available on the day of the race. The 135th running of the $500,000-added Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) is scheduled for Friday, May 1 at Churchill Downs.
A total of $34,153 had been wagered through the first three days lone pool of the 2009 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager.
Wagering on Oaks Future Bet is scheduled to resume at noon (all times EDT) on Sunday, March 15, the pool’s final day.  Betting is scheduled to conclude on Sunday at 6:30 p.m., 30 minutes after the close of betting in Pool 2 of the companion Kentucky Derby Future Wager.
While the big three of Justwhistledixie, Stardom Bound and Rachel Alexandra continued to attract most of the Oaks Future Wager action, the mutuel field remained a solid fourth betting choice at odds of 9-1.  That betting interest includes all 3-year-old fillies other than the 23 horses in the Oaks Future bet.  It’s a long way to Bon Jovi Girl and Fitz Just Right, next in the betting line at odds of 25-1, and Haka at 27-1.
