Mulligan Conscious; Talks to Wife

Mike Mulligan, who suffered a skull fracture in a fall, is awake and talking.

Leprechaun Racing’s Mike Mulligan, who suffered a fractured skull in a fall following the March 3 Fasig-Tipton Florida March select sale of 2-year-olds in training, is fully conscious and spoke to his wife on the phone March 18 during the second and final session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March select sale of 2-year-olds in training in Central Florida.

“Very good,” said Britt Mulligan, when asked how she felt while waiting for one of the Leprechaun horses to be sold at OBS early in the afternoon.

Mike Mulligan is recuperating in a South Florida hospital.

According to an announcement from the OBS auction stand made by John Henderson around 2 p.m. EDT, Mulligan "seemed in good spirits, and he recognized everyone.”

“Mike called Britt, and he said, ‘Where are you?’ ” said Jaqui de Meric, a pinhooker and friend of the Mulligans. “And she (Britt) said, ‘I’m at the March sale.” She said she could hear his brother who was with him say, ‘Mike, get back in the bed; you can’t get out of bed!’ So he (Mike) is with it totally. Hallelujah!"
