Storm Mesa Retired

Grade II winner Storm Mesa has been retired and booked to Unbridled's Song.

Storm Mesa, a grade II-winning daughter of Sky Mesa , has been retired from racing because of a fractured sesamoid in her right front leg. She is booked to Unbridled's Song, who stands at the Taylor family’s Taylor Made Farm near Nicholasville, Ky.

Four-year-old Storm Mesa won the San Clemente Handicap (gr. IIT) at Del Mar, the Iowa Stakes (gr. III) at Prairie Meadows, and the Cinemine Stakes at Lone Star Park as part of a five-race win streak last year while trained by Bret Calhoun. She captured the Cinemine by 13 1/2 lengths and recorded a 108 Beyer Speed Figure in her 1:21.56 score at seven furlongs.

Storm Mesa won or placed in eight of a dozen races and earned $336,510 for owner Richard L. Davis. She had been pointed to the April 9 Vinery Madison (gr. I) at Keeneland.

Bred in Kentucky by M & N Mazzoni, Storm Mesa was produced from the Pleasant Colony mare Narjis Flower, whose dam, Flowing, was a champion in Ireland. Storm Mesa was bought for $80,000 by Cody Autrey from Mayberry Farm, agent, at the 2007 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s April sale of 2-year-olds in training.
