Quality Road Tops Late TC Nominees

Total number of nominees is 412.

Edited press release

Florida Derby (gr. I) winner Quality Road  headlines a list of 11 late nominees to Thoroughbred racing’s 2009 Triple Crown. The deadline for late nominees, at a fee of $6,000, passed Saturday at midnight.

Added to the 401 prospects that were nominated during the early sign-up period that closed Jan. 24, when the fee was $600 per nominee, the total number of nominees this year is 412

Other graded winners among the late nominees are Win Willy, Musket Man, This Ones for Phil, and the multiple graded stakes winning filly Justwhistledixie, who is on a five-race win streak.

Also added to the field are Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) hopefuls Feisty Suances and Mr. Hot Stuff, as well as Bet On Victor, Hull, Hamazing Destiny, and Summer Bird.

The first leg of the Triple Crown – the 135th Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) at Churchill Downs – will be run Saturday, May 2, followed by the 134th Preakness Stakes (gr. I) at Baltimore’s Pimlico Race Course on May 16 and the 141st Belmont Stakes (gr. I) on June 6 at New York’s Belmont Park.
