A quarrel between jockey Eibar Coa and his agent, Matt Muzikar, has been resolved, Muzikar said April 13.
A disagreement between the two caused Muzikar to drop Coa’s book April 10, and Coa hired agent Drew Mollica. Mollica stopped being Richard Migliore’s agent to do the deal, but Coa then asked Muzikar to reconsider.
“It all stems from a lack of communication, but regardless, Eibar is my friend and things happen, and this is a high pressure game,” Muzikar said. “Obviously, after the dust settled from our confrontation the other day, I guess we both realized we’re better off with each other than without each other.”
Mollica said he spoke to Coa April 12, at which time the jockey expressed certain concerns about proceeding with their arrangement.
“I haven’t heard from him since then; I’ve attempted to call him numerous times, but I only know what the press tells me,” Mollica said. “It’s just unacceptable; it’s not the way professional people act.”
Mollica said he did not know whether he would return to working with Migliore.
Attempts to reach Coa, who won the April 11 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) aboard General Quarters, were unsuccessful. Coa is scheduled to work Illinois Derby (gr. II) winner Musket Man at Churchill Downs April 18 at 9 a.m., Muzikar said.
